A lot of yards reach a point where they look rough - patchy, compacted, and tired - but they're not actually dead. They just need the right push. That's where power raking and hydroseeding come in, and it's one of the more satisfying combinations we get to work with.
Here's what we were working with: a worn-down lawn area where the loam had gotten buried under years of thatch and compaction. Power raking pulls all of that up and brings the good soil back to the surface. It's aggressive, but in the best way. Once that's done, you've got a clean slate to work with.
From there, hydroseed goes down and covers the whole area evenly. The slurry mix - seed, mulch, fertilizer, and tackifier all in one - bonds right to the soil and holds everything in place while germination starts. That blue-green color you see after application is the hydromulch doing its job, keeping moisture in and protecting the seed.
What we like about this approach is that it's not starting over from scratch. You're working with what's already there. The grading stays intact, the existing soil stays put, and the lawn gets a real chance to come back strong. It's a smart, cost-effective way to handle a yard that just needs some help - not a full rebuild.
Whether it's a large open area or a tucked-away spot like this one surrounded by trees and boulders, the process is the same. Prep the ground right, then give the seed everything it needs to take hold. It works.
