Boulder Feature and Landscape Lighting That Looks Sharp Day and Night

Some yards just need the right finishing touches to go from ordinary to something worth noticing. That's exactly what we were going for here - a clean, well-thought-out feature that holds up just as well at dusk as it does in the middle of the afternoon.

We built a rounded cobblestone border around a large natural boulder, then filled the bed with white marble chips and tucked in a couple of ornamental grasses on either side. The contrast between the rough texture of the boulder and the crisp, bright marble chips is what really makes the whole thing pop. It's a simple concept, but the execution is everything.

The landscape lighting is where it all comes together. A low-profile spot fixture positioned right in front of the boulder throws a warm wash of light directly onto the stone face. That kind of uplighting is intentional - it creates depth and draws the eye even after the sun goes down. We also ran fixtures along the back fence line to give the yard a finished, well-lit perimeter at night.

When you're putting together a feature like this, the details matter. The cobblestone border has to be level and tight. The marble chips need to be laid evenly. And the lighting placement has to be thought through - not just pointed in a general direction, but angled and positioned to get the effect you actually want. We sweat those details on every job.

A yard that looks good at night is one of the easiest ways to boost curb appeal without a major overhaul. Combined with the right hardscape elements, outdoor lighting turns a simple landscape bed into something that genuinely stands out on the street.
